"Cultivate the Minds of Our Youth, for They Are the Future!"
If so, the future is going be scary...
So Jacobin has declared Gen Z to be fucked-up. No shit? Well, I don't think they care much: any kids reading Jacobin will scoff at this and immediately start regurgitating fragments of cliches, sound bytes from whatever knuckle-headed ideology they have been conned into believing, usually by some Poli Sci dropout who has cobbled together a loathsome worldview based on the writings of crackpots. It's also harrowing to see how many young people talk about fascism seriously, citing creeps like James Mason and that shithead dark enlightenment fool Mencius Moldbug, who confuses having a cool nickname with actually having something to say.
The older generation supports and votes for imperial war, censorship, & neoliberal austerity projects — as directed by their graft-ridden congressional representatives —in order to maintain US hegemony abroad. The young are rightfully pissed off — let's not forget this — and they’re going to immediately gravitate to bullshit ideas because this country does not encourage the development of political literacy. And as much as they hate Trump, support for fascist strongmen will continue to grow until a real left party is developed, which is not likely. The Democrats will tolerate Trumps, Trumps, and more Trumps before they ever reform. Just look at Bernie. They fear socialism more than they fear fascism. Meaning it will take years before people get pissed off enough to do the right thing. At the moment, progress is a pipe dream, at least in a country where 150,000,000 people voted for a genocidal war criminal or a bloviating racist celebrity billionaire…
… and a bunch of politically clueless kids are ready to drink whatever flavor of Kool-Aid they’re served.
Why shouldn’t they be, considering what they’ve been offered? The left has failed them, which is why we’ll experience a lot more darkness before people realize that viable alternatives are feasible. Help educate, attend marches, organize, protest, and develop solidarity across demographic lines. It’s not complicated, but it demands time and sacrifice.
