Let’s walk hand-in-hand down the bloody pathway that leads back to September 11, 2001. Has any country in history mishandled a tragedy with this kind of incompetence? Has any disaster management protocol ever resulted in the kind of international violence and trauma the likes of which the United States has inflicted on the world for over twenty years now?
Those aren’t even the most distressing questions.
How about this one: Is this perhaps not a tragedy at all, but rather a singular and overwhelming success and the very thing they were trying to accomplish? Did our politicians and ruling class see this as an opportunity to impose radical change, strip us of our civil rights, and establish a unipolar world order in which anyone who resists — foreign or domestic — gets crushed in the machinery of global neoliberalism and never-ending imperial warfare?
Worse yet, have they overplayed their hand? Are we an empire on the skids, whose duped citizenry has relinquished its rights and accepted the autocracy of a rigged two-party system, whose flunkies exist for no other reason than to serve as the privileged administrative class for a rotten and corrupt oligarchy?
It starts with the Patriot Act, our original sin, which I fought against with as much conviction as I ever devoted to anything. I saw this as the beginning of the end, and I think it’s proven to be just that. Joe Biden not only pushed for war with Iraq, but he also went out and gave the American public a relentlessly hard sell, ramming the Patriot Act — which he helped author — straight down our throats. Genocide Joe has always done the bidding of the ruling class, and he’s even bragged about it. “I tried to prostitute myself to big donors during my first senate run,” is how he put it.
So Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the Neocon Ghoul Parade all had their wettest of dreams come true: Here was a chance to strengthen their global stranglehold and establish the American Empire as the world’s unipolar superpower. It’s all thanks to Dems like Biden, who now employ the same neocons who worked for Bush and Cheney. Nicole Wallace replaces Rachel Maddow at MSNBC. Victoria Nuland, wife of Robert Kagan, oversees the Ukraine debacle. Worse yet, today’s headlines just revealed that Kamala Harris has turned to John Bolton and Bill Kristol for endorsements.
Still, for some reason that has nothing to do with fact or logic, people insist on continuing with this charade, this put-on, this piss-take, this ridiculous game of Emperor’s New Clothes in which people blabber and chatter at each other as if the two parties are not working for the exact same people.
Next comes the NDAA, the National Defense Authorization Act in 2012, over which Chris Hedges sued President Obama. Another essential civil liberty - one dating back to the time of the Magna Carta — simply disappears. The Supreme Court, regardless of what any Trump-frenzied Democrat tells you, has never sided with the people and has never stepped in to do the right thing unless people were out in the streets messing things up and resisting. So of course, the court sided with the president, and habeas corpus was swept away. You can now be arrested and detained without charge and held indefinitely. Even if you are an American citizen, on American territory.
Fast forward to June 26, 2024. Genocide Joe had been hauled to the Supreme Court for what a Missouri Judge called the worst assault on the First Amendment in this nation’s history. This is what was revealed in the Twitter Files, and as shocking as it is, I don’t have a single liberal friend who gives a shit about the death of free speech. They’re all ready to line up and vote for a genocidal war criminal.
In any case, the Supreme Court, as always, ruled in favor of the elites and the powerful. Now, the government can censor your social media posts at will.
Biden did that.
That power will be passed to Trump.
We let that happen because we believed a bunch of lies spread by people with total Trump hysteria — lies that any 3rd grader could see through.
We let that happen because people don’t understand how propaganda works and how ideology reproduces itself and maintains the status quo.
Get ready, because there’s more. Since Biden's jellied gray matter has already resulted in a proxy war and made us complicit in the 21st century’s most notorious genocide, I suppose he’s decided to go for broke. I guess that somewhere between reruns of Wheel of Fortune and finishing his evening pudding cup, he came up with the idea of legalizing military force against American citizens:
Click the text and you’ll link to the document.
That’s right. The government has amended this law so that now, for the first time, it is free to use lethal military force against its own populace.
I wonder why they would pass this just a few weeks before the elections. Could it be they expect to lose and that they may need a legal means of imposing martial law should Trump win? They have tried everything: banana republic trials, utterly fantastic and hysterical lies, two assassination attempts, and Rasputin is still vertical. I guess they’re ready to pull out all the stops.
Just don’t delude yourself into thinking that either party has a trace of dignity or honesty left.
The two-party system is dead and over. If anyone would like to keep playing, they’re obviously free to do so. I can’t stop them.
I know.
I’ve tried.
Just don’t invite me to take part.
